Turkmenistan's Foreign Policy: Nine-Month Results
04.10.2025 | 00:40 |Ashgabat, October 3 | ORIENT. During a government meeting on Friday, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Rashid Meredov presented a report on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' activities for the first nine months of this year.
During this period, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov made official visits to Russia, China, the United States, Japan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, and Mongolia.
Chairman of the Khak Maslakhaty Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov also made significant foreign trips to France, Monaco, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, and the Republic of Tatarstan (Russia).
A significant event was the August forum – the Third UN Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries, held in the Avaza National Tourist Zone. Turkmenistan hosted the leaders of Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Armenia, Sao Tome and Principe, the King of Eswatini, and the Chairman of the Presidential Council of Libya. In August, a high-level trilateral meeting was also held at Avaza, involving the Presidents of Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan, and Uzbekistan.
A significant milestone during the reporting period was the visit of the Turkmen delegation led by the President to New York (September 21–24), where the head of state addressed the 80th anniversary session of the UN General Assembly. During the session, meetings were held with the Secretary-General of the United Nations, as well as the leaders of Austria, Portugal, Switzerland, Eswatini, and the Crown Prince of Kuwait.
Bilateral contacts also intensified: heads of government and high-ranking representatives of several countries visited Ashgabat. The secretaries-general of the UN, the Economic Cooperation Organization, the International Exhibitions Bureau, the Organization of Turkic States, TURKSOY, the International Road Transport Union, and other organizations visited Turkmenistan.
Since the beginning of the year, 433 online meetings and 2,063 negotiations at various levels have been held. Turkmenistan's international treaty base has been expanded by 134 documents. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also holds consultations between foreign ministries and meets with the leadership of the European Union and the European Commission.
Work through Turkmenistan's diplomatic missions abroad remains an important focus, facilitating the expansion of ties in trade, economic, cultural, humanitarian, and educational spheres.
Summarizing Meredov's report, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov instructed the Deputy Prime Minister and head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to continue strengthening cooperation with interested countries and reputable international organizations. The head of state instructed them to thoroughly prepare for upcoming international events marking the anniversary of Turkmenistan's neutrality.
