China Opens Options Market to Foreign Investors
04.10.2025 | 12:25 |China has granted foreign investors access to stock options, Reuters reports. The decision is part of a broader strategy to strengthen the role of the yuan and attract global capital.
According to the Shanghai Stock Exchange, qualified foreign institutional investors can now use options to hedge risks in China’s stock market, which exceeds 100 trillion yuan ($14.05 trillion) in value.
In the initial phase, five option products based on exchange-traded index funds are available. This approach reduces risks, as transactions are tied not to individual companies but to indexes.
The opening of the options market complements China’s recent initiatives, including the launch of a center in Shanghai to promote the digital yuan and the development of offshore business with the national currency in Hong Kong.
Options contracts grant investors the right to buy or sell an asset at a predetermined price within a specified period, remaining one of the key tools for capital management in global markets.
