The President of Turkmenistan and the Vice Premier of the State Council of the People's Republic of China discussed partnership prospects
02.09.2025 | 23:52 |On September 2, as part of a working visit to the People's Republic of China, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov met with member of the Standing Committee of the Politburo of the CPC Central Committee, First Vice Premier of the State Council of the People's Republic of China Ding Xuexiang. The parties discussed the current state of cooperation, its strategic nature and development prospects.
At the beginning of the conversation, Ding Xuexiang emphasized that the visit of the head of Turkmenistan is a landmark event that will give new impetus to strengthening traditionally friendly ties. He also noted the importance of cooperation between China and Turkmenistan, emphasizing the active development of trade and economic ties, cultural and humanitarian interaction and political dialogue.
The parties paid special attention to energy partnership. President Serdar Berdimuhamedov highly appreciated the work of the China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC), and also noted the successful operation of the Turkmenistan-China gas pipeline since 2009.
In the field of transport and logistics, the relevance of creating a trans-Caspian logistics route was emphasized. The President of Turkmenistan invited Chinese partners to a dialogue on creating a sustainable transport and logistics link between Turkmenistan and China, which will pass through the territory of Central Asia, the Caspian Sea and further west.
In this context, the Turkmen side expressed its readiness to increase cooperation in the field of railway transport, including the modernization of the national railway system and the purchase of new equipment from China. In order to increase mutual trade turnover, Turkmenistan proposed to increase exports of textiles, chemical products, agro-industrial complex and petroleum products to China.
The parties also discussed the prospects for the development of cultural and humanitarian ties. The President noted that Turkmen students are successfully studying at universities in China, and Chinese is taught in a number of educational institutions in Turkmenistan. The intention to expand cooperation in science, education and culture was emphasized.
High technology and artificial intelligence occupied a special place on the agenda. President Serdar Berdimuhamedov proposed using the capabilities of the International Science and Technology Park of the Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan, the Oguz Khan University of Engineering and Technology, and the Institute of Telecommunications and Informatics for these purposes.
