Serdar Berdimuhamedov met with the President of Portugal in New York.
24.09.2025 | 00:40 |During his working visit to the United States, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov met with President of the Portuguese Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa. The talks reaffirmed the friendly nature of relations between the countries and outlined new prospects for their development.
The presidents noted the great potential for expanding cooperation between Turkmenistan and Portugal, relations of which are based on the principles of equality and mutual respect. The two countries regularly support each other's constructive international initiatives and co-author them within the United Nations, underscoring their shared commitment to global dialogue and the search for joint solutions.
During their conversation, President Berdimuhamedov invited his Portuguese counterpart to participate in the International Forum, which will be held on December 12 in Ashgabat. The event will be timed to the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan's permanent neutrality and the International Year of Peace and Trust, proclaimed by the UN on Turkmenistan's initiative.
Thanking for the invitation, President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa noted that Turkmenistan's peacekeeping foreign policy, based on positive neutrality, enjoys broad support worldwide and strengthens the country's international standing as a responsible participant in global dialogue.
