Ambassador of China: Global Governance Initiative - path to a brighter future for all
25.09.2025 | 00:17 |Amid rising international tensions, China is proposing a new global governance initiative aimed at strengthening peace and justice. In his article for ORIENT, Ambassador of People’s Republic of China to Turkmenistan Ji Shumin examines in detail the five key principles of this concept and emphasizes that it is consistent with the goals and spirit of Turkmenistan's foreign policy and opens new prospects for cooperation between the two countries.
Today, the world is experiencing profound changes rarely seen in the past hundred years. We are witnessing regional conflicts, economic difficulties, and rising anti-globalization sentiment. International law and the rule of law often remain only on paper.
In response to these challenges, Chinese President Xi Jinping proposed the Global Governance Initiative at the SCO Plus meeting on September 1. This initiative aims to create a more just and effective global governance system. It demonstrates China's determination to work with other countries to improve the global situation. The Global Governance Initiative includes five key principles.
- Sovereign equality as the fundamental premise of global governance.
All countries, regardless of their size, wealth, or influence, have equal rights to participate in international affairs. A handful of countries cannot be allowed to control global governance.
- The rule of international law as a fundamental guarantee of global governance.
International law must be a common standard for all countries. It must be jointly developed, supported, and observed by all countries without exception.
- Multilateralism as the primary path to global governance.
Global governance must be based on the cooperation of all countries, not on the actions of a single country.
- A human-centered approach as the value orientation of global governance.
Global governance must serve the interests of people, help them live better lives, and jointly build a world where everyone can be happy and successful.
- Action orientation as an important principle of global governance.
The viability of global governance stems from practice; its essence lies in action, and its success depends on results. In other words, global governance must be effective and address real problems, particularly in developing countries.
...The initiative of President Xi Jinping is consistent with the purposes and principles of the UN Charter. It does not seek to destroy the existing international order, but rather to make it more effective in addressing global challenges.
The initiative has been warmly received by the international community. Turkmenistan supports this idea, as it is consistent with its policy of neutrality and peaceful resolution of disputes.
China and Turkmenistan cooperate in the UN and other international organizations to maintain peace, stability, and development. They actively participate in resolving regional issues and contribute to improving global governance.
China and Turkmenistan, striving to maintain peace, stability, and development, closely cooperate in international organizations and formats such as the UN and the China-Central Asia Forum. Our two countries actively participate in mediation and resolution of international and regional issues, making a significant contribution to improving global governance and promoting a more equitable world order.
Going forward, China stands ready to strengthen cooperation with all partners in the international community, including Turkmenistan, and make collective efforts to reform the global governance system with the goal of creating a new world – secure, developing, and prosperous.
