Serdar Berdimuhamedov meets with António Guterres

As part of his working visit to the United States, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov met with UN Secretary-General António Guterres. The talks took place on September 23 at United Nations Headquarters.

At the beginning of the meeting, the Turkmen leader congratulated António Guterres on the successful start of the 80th session of the UN General Assembly and conveyed warm greetings from National Leader of the Turkmen People Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov. He also extended heartfelt congratulations to the Secretary-General and all staff on the 80th anniversary of the UN.

In turn, António Guterres noted that he views this meeting as a continuation of fruitful cooperation. He particularly emphasized Turkmenistan's contribution to resolving important regional and global issues, noting that over the past 80 years, the UN has accomplished colossal work to ensure peace and stability.

One of the central topics was the Third UN Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDCs) held in Turkmenistan. The UN Secretary-General expressed appreciation for the forum's high organizational level, emphasizing that the documents adopted during it mark a new stage in the UN's work to address the challenges faced by these countries. The President of Turkmenistan, in turn, reaffirmed his country's commitment to implementing the Avaza Political Declaration and the Avaza Action Program.

President Serdar Berdimuhamedov invited António Guterres to participate in the International Forum, which will be held on December 12 in Ashgabat. This event will coincide with the International Year of Peace and Trust, proclaimed by the UN on the initiative of Turkmenistan, and the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan's neutrality.

The UN Secretary-General thanked him for the invitation and noted the important role of neutral Turkmenistan in promoting the ideals of peace not only in Central Asia but throughout the world.
