The President of Turkmenistan met with the Federal President of Austria.
25.09.2025 | 00:45 |During his working visit to the United States, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov met with Federal President of the Republic of Austria, Alexander Van der Bellen, on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly. The talks reaffirmed the long-standing nature of the bilateral partnership and identified new areas for its development.
As noted, Austria is a long-standing and important partner of Turkmenistan in the European region. Relations between the countries are developing on the basis of mutual respect, friendship, and understanding. Similar foreign policies based on the principles of permanent neutrality serve as the foundation for coordinating joint actions on the international stage. The two countries successfully cooperate not only bilaterally but also multilaterally, particularly within the UN.
Trade and economic cooperation remain a priority area of interaction. Austrian companies are reliable suppliers of advanced equipment for various sectors of the Turkmen economy, from the oil and gas industry to healthcare. The parties noted the important role of the Turkmen-Austrian Joint Commission in realizing the economic potential of the two countries.
Cultural and humanitarian ties also make a significant contribution to strengthening interstate relations. Turkmen musicians regularly perform at festivals in Austria, a Turkmen-Austrian symphony orchestra has been established, and the Vienna Ball is held in Turkmenistan.
President Serdar Berdimuhamedov invited his Austrian counterpart to participate in the International Forum on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan's permanent neutrality. The event will take place on December 12 in Ashgabat as part of the International Year of Peace and Trust, proclaimed by the UN on the initiative of Turkmenistan. Having gratefully accepted the invitation, President Van der Bellen emphasized that Turkmenistan’s policy of neutrality makes an important contribution to ensuring global peace and enjoys broad support from the international community.
