 UN established a Group of Friends of Neutrality on the initiative of Turkmenistan

On the initiative of Turkmenistan, the Group of Friends of Neutrality for Peace, Security and Development was established at UN. According to Xinhua News Agency, 18 countries participated in the ceremony, which took place via a video link under the chairmanship of Turkmenistan representative of to UN Aksoltan Atayeva. The first states to enter the Group of Friends of Neutrality are Russia, China, Uzbekistan, Pakistan, Egypt, Qatar, Iran, Ireland, Costa Rica, etc.

The agency reports that Deputy Permanent Representative of the People’s Republic of China to UN Geng Shuang represented and spoke at the conference for the Chinese party.

Referring to China’s position, he emphasized his country’s commitment to multilateralism, peace and development. Geng Shuang assured that China is ready for the broadest cooperation in this and other formats with all parties concerned.

This year marks Turkmenistan’s 25th anniversary of international recognition of its neutral status. The creation of the Group of Friends of Neutrality at UN is one of the major measures to expand the use of the institution of neutrality to improve the international political climate.
