From sand to glass: Turkmenistan launches new plant ready for export
09.09.2025 | 00:02 |A new glass production facility has opened in Turkmenistan, marking an important step in the development of the country's industrial sector. President Serdar Berdimuhamedov attended the opening ceremony held on September 8 in the northern part of Ashgabat, underscoring the strategic importance of this project.
The new plant, built using advanced technologies, is capable of producing up to 100 tons of glass products per day. Its main feature is the use of exclusively local raw materials - quartz sand, dolomite, limestone and sodium sulfate. This not only reduces costs, but also guarantees uninterrupted production processes, facilitating the implementation of the import substitution program.
Technology and quality: a look from the inside
During the visit, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov got acquainted with the technological production cycle, which is fully automated. It includes:
Melting of raw materials at temperatures up to 1500 degrees.
Formation of products on special equipment.
Gradual cooling in furnaces, which relieves internal stress and gives the product strength.
Automatic quality control using high-precision devices and cameras.
The plant is equipped with equipment from leading global manufacturers. Representatives of the German company Horn Glass Industries and the Italian Vetromeccanica Srl and Bottero personally presented the plant's management with certificates confirming the compliance of production with international quality and environmental safety standards.
Economic and social impact
The new production facility will fully satisfy the domestic market's demand for high-quality glass containers, including for the food and pharmaceutical industries. In addition, its products will be exported, which will open up new opportunities for strengthening trade relations with foreign partners.
The project also has important social significance, as it will provide hundreds of jobs for qualified engineers and technologists. This will allow them to apply their knowledge and skills in modern high-tech production.
Industrialization Course and Upcoming Openings of Facilities
The opening of the glass workshop is not only an important step in developing the country's industrial potential, but also part of a large-scale program for industrialization and diversification of the economy of Turkmenistan, aimed at creating modern production facilities and increasing export opportunities.
Addressing the participants of the ceremony, the President announced a number of other major projects that will be commissioned on the eve of Independence Day. These are new villages in the Ahal velayat, a road bridge in the Kunyaurgench etrap of the Dashoguz region, and a park in the capital. In addition, social infrastructure facilities will be commissioned in various parts of the country. All this demonstrates a comprehensive approach to the development of the country and improving the standard of living of the population.
