Knowledge Opens Borders: Turkmen Student Left on a Study Trip to Japan
08.09.2025 | 18:00 |From September 3 to 18, 2025, Mahri Berdyeva, a student of the Oguz Han Engineering and Technology University of Turkmenistan, went on a study trip to Osaka, Japan. She earned this opportunity thanks to her outstanding talent, knowledge of the Japanese language, and victory in a prestigious competition. This trip is a reward for her participation in the “Study in Japan for Japanese Language Learners” program, which is held annually with the support of the Embassy of Japan in Turkmenistan.
The selection process consisted of three rigorous stages. In April 2025, the Embassy of Japan organized a speech contest that brought together students from three leading Turkmen universities. Mahri successfully passed this stage, ranking among the top six, and then took a special Japanese language test. Although she was only a first-year student at the time, her knowledge and determination enabled her to win first place in the final round — an interview. It was this victory that gave her the chance to travel to Japan.
Currently, Mahri is in Japan, where she is not only continuing her intensive study of the Japanese language but also immersing herself in the country’s rich culture. Her program includes joint classes with students from other countries, which promotes international exchange of experience. In addition, participants of the internship make special trips to historical sites, allowing them to personally engage with Japan’s heritage and gain invaluable experience that will undoubtedly benefit her in the future.
