Turkmenistan and Japan: Focus on large-scale investment projects

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov held a meeting on Friday, September 5, with Representative Director and Deputy Chairman of the Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC) Amakawa Kazuhiko. The talks became another confirmation of the high dynamics of Turkmen-Japanese relations based on a trusting political dialogue at the highest level.

During the meeting, the parties noted with satisfaction the successful experience of interaction between Turkmenistan and JBIC. The effectiveness of joint projects that are already being implemented with financing from the Japanese bank in such strategically important sectors as oil and gas, chemical and electric power was emphasized.

The Japanese side highly appreciated the open investment policy pursued under the leadership of President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov. Amakawa Kazuhiko expressed interest in further expanding cooperation and confirmed the readiness of JBIC to participate in the implementation of new large-scale national projects in Turkmenistan.

Particular attention was paid to the importance of bilateral documents signed during the visit of the President of Turkmenistan to Japan in April this year. These agreements create a solid legal framework for further deepening the partnership.
