Turkestan has been chosen as the tourist capital of the Turkic world for 2024

The official announcement of this decision is planned at the next summit of the heads of the OTG countries, which will be held on November 3 in the same city.
Following the meeting of the Ministers of Tourism, on October 12, a tourism forum was held in Turkestan among representatives of Turkic countries. The main goal of the forum is to establish mutually beneficial cooperation and get acquainted with the city of Turkestan as the next capital of the Turkic world in 2024, reports tengrinews.kz.
At the forum, the Kazakh side proposed a number of initiatives and comprehensive measures. These are an increase in the number of flights between the major cities of the member states and the observer states of the OTG, the creation of joint tourist products, the intensification of work on establishing partnerships and the development of the modern Silk Road route. In order to promote a healthy lifestyle, cultural exchange and stimulate the tourist flow, it is proposed to create an alliance of running marathons among the countries of the OTG.
It was also noted that the creation of the league of OTG universities specializing in tourism and hospitality training will contribute to improving the professional level of students, which is important for a successful career in tourism.
It was emphasized that one of the significant initiatives in the OTG space was the initiative "tourist capital of the Turkic world". It allows you to unlock the tourist potential of cities along the Great Silk Road and promotes the rapprochement of the peoples of all Turkic countries through the knowledge of each other's cultural and traditional values.
This title is awarded annually to one of the cities of the participating countries of the Organization of Turkic States. This year it is worn by the Azerbaijani city of Shamakhi.
According to the adviser to the chairman of the State Tourism Agency of Azerbaijan, Kyanan Guluzade, the number of tourists visiting Azerbaijan from Turkic countries has increased in recent years. The number of citizens of Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Turkey, Hungary, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan who visited Azerbaijan increased by 32, 59, 20, 91, 78 and 188 percent respectively in 9 months of 2023.
On October 13-14, the 40th meeting of the Permanent Council of Ministers of Culture of the International Organization of Turkic Culture (TURKSOY) is being held in the Azerbaijani city of Shusha, where the status of the "Cultural Capital of the Turkic World" for 2024 will also be transferred to the Turkmen city of Anau.
