China releases results of the 5th national economic census

China has released the results of its fifth national economic census.

According to the Chinese daily socio-political newspaper China Daily, the census results indicate that the country's economy has achieved progress while maintaining stability over the past five years.

The census revealed that by the end of 2023, there were 33.27 million legal entities engaged in the secondary and tertiary sectors of the economy in China. This represents a 52.7% increase compared to the end of 2018.

By the end of 2023, more than 428.98 million people were employed in the secondary and tertiary sectors of the economy, a 11.9% increase compared to the same period in 2018.

The number of individual entrepreneurs reached nearly 88 million, providing employment for almost 179.56 million people.

The economic census provides a comprehensive overview of the country's secondary (industry, energy, construction) and tertiary (services, finance and insurance, public administration, science, and education) sectors, and also provides valuable information on its socio-economic development.

China conducted four national economic censuses in 2004, 2008, 2013, and 2018, respectively, and officially launched the fifth in 2023.
