New Year’s Trees of the CIS Countries: Turkmenistan’s main New year tree is once again the tallest

Each of these trees is unique in its own way, particularly in terms of height. A correspondent for Orient presents an overview of the New Year trees in the CIS countries.
Let’s start our review with the tallest tree in the CIS. This title once again goes to the 44-meter tall green beauty, set up in front of the Cultural and Entertainment Center "Alem" in Ashgabat. Its decorations include more than 4,000 ornaments and 55,000 LED lights. Surrounding the tree are light installations and thematic sculptures.
In second place is Armenia. In Yerevan, the main tree, standing 37 meters tall, was lit on December 5. Its decorations are made in traditional Armenian style, featuring national patterns, with golden and silver elements added.
Uzbekistan takes third place. In Tashkent, on Independence Square, a 35-meter tree was installed on December 9. Its design combines Uzbek national motifs with modern technologies. Around the tree, there are festive markets, amusement rides, and relaxation zones.
Azerbaijan ranks fourth. In the center of Baku, on December 12, 2024, the main tree was installed, standing 34 meters tall. It is adorned with kilometers of garlands and tens of thousands of ornaments. The lighting ceremony was the highlight of the evening, which also featured fireworks and a light show.
Kyrgyzstan is in fifth place. In Bishkek, on Ala-Too Square, the lights on the 32-meter tree were lit on December 14. Its decorations include 4,000 ornaments and sparkling garlands. The lighting was accompanied by performances from artists and children’s groups.
In sixth place is Belarus. On October Square in Minsk, a 30-meter tree was installed on December 8, becoming the capital's main winter attraction. Its decorations include 3.2 kilometers of garlands.
Tajikistan ranks seventh for tree height. In Dushanbe, on Independence Square, a 30-meter tree was set up on December 10. Its decorations include bright illuminations and festive ornaments. A magical New Year village was created around the tree, featuring arches, snowmen, and Santa Claus's house.
In eighth place are Russia and Kazakhstan. In Moscow, on December 15, a 25-meter tree was installed in the Cathedral Square of the Kremlin. It is decorated with ornaments in the shape of musical instruments and a garland 1.2 kilometers long.
In Astana, a 25-meter tree was installed on December 7, decorated with national patterns and modern light effects.
Each New Year tree in the CIS countries is unique and provides a reason to travel during the winter holidays to create vivid memories.
