 Turkmenistan and IRU outlined ways of interaction in the field of transport connectivity

Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, Rashid Meredov and Secretary General of the International Road Transport Union (IRU) Umberto de Pretto discussed preparations for the November international conference in Ashgabat to celebrate World Sustainable Transport Day.

During the meeting held on Friday in Ashgabat, the sides noted the positive experience of cooperation between Turkmenistan and the IRU, outlined actions to improve interconnectivity between the countries through the development of multimodal transit corridors and international logistics hubs, as well as the digitalization of the transport industry.

Rashid Meredov and Umberto de Pretto discussed cooperation on the UN platform and exchanged views on the role of the Group of Friends of Sustainable Transport established at the initiative of Turkmenistan.

Umberto de Pretto noted the commitment of Turkmenistan's leadership to improve transport infrastructure at the regional level, contributing to increasing its efficiency, including by joining international documents, reports the press service of the Turkmen Foreign Ministry.

The parties also discussed issues related to increasing expert capacity and developing the legal and regulatory framework for cooperation. Preparations for the November international conference in Ashgabat, dedicated to the World Sustainable Transport Day, were considered.

The meeting also discussed mechanisms for implementing Turkmenistan's initiatives in the field of sustainable transport, which were included in Turkmenistan's priority position for the 79th session of the UN General Assembly.
