Former U.S. President Jimmy Carter passes away

Former U.S. President Jimmy Carter passed away on Sunday at the age of 100. Current U.S. President Joe Biden and President-elect Donald Trump offered their condolences over his death.

Carter held the record as the longest-living U.S. president, a milestone he achieved on October 1, 2019, when he became the first American leader to surpass the age of 95.

The 39th president of the United States was born in Georgia in 1924 to a nurse and a mid-level farmer-entrepreneur. He served as the nation's leader from 1977 to 1981.
