Gabriel Attal became the new Prime Minister of France

Gabriel Attal has been appointed the new Prime Minister of France. This was reported by the BFMTV channel, TASS reports.

The corresponding decision was made by French President Emmanuel Macron. On Monday, the head of state dismissed Elizabeth Born, who has served as prime minister since May 2022.

Attal, 34, has been the Minister of Education to date. He became the youngest prime minister in the history of France. Thus, he beat Laurent Fabius, who was confirmed as head of the Cabinet in 1984 at the age of 37.

Attal was born on March 16, 1989 in the Paris suburb of Clamart. His father, lawyer Yves Attal, was born into a Jewish family from Tunisia, and his mother, Orthodox Christian Marie de Courisse, who worked in a production company, came from a family of white immigrants who migrated to France from Odessa.

Attal was educated at the Metropolitan Institute of Political Sciences. He also holds a law degree from the University of Paris II (Pantheon-Assas). He began his political career in the ranks of the Socialist Party. Since the creation of the Republic on the March movement by Macron, he has become a participant in it and a close associate of the head of state. The young politician was elected to parliament from the presidential movement. In 2020, at Macron's suggestion, Attal became Secretary of State and official representative of the government, which predetermined his future career.

In May 2022, he was appointed Minister Delegate in charge of public accounts at the Ministry of Economy. In July 2023, he was entrusted to head one of the key departments - the Ministry of Education.

In these positions, Attal gained a reputation as a competent, energetic and purposeful politician. According to BFMTV, Attal is the most popular minister among the current government. "He puts everything in order that he starts to do," stated one of the representatives of the ruling party.

Political analysts predict that one of Attal's main tasks in his new post will be to ensure the success of the ruling Renaissance party in the elections to the European Parliament, which are coming in June.
