The "Zhanaozen – Turkmenistan border" road to be fully reconstructed
05.02.2025 | 14:45 |Kazakhstan plans a large-scale road reconstruction project, including the "Zhanaozen – Turkmenistan border" route. This was announced by Kazakhstan’s Minister of Transport, Marat Karabayev, during a government meeting. According to the minister, 13,000 kilometers of roads are scheduled for repair in 2025, with funding already secured for 9,500 kilometers.
The remaining sections are still under review for financing. As part of the Kazakh President’s directive, 3,000 kilometers of roads will be upgraded to the first and second categories by 2029, enhancing transport infrastructure and boosting the country’s economic development.
Among the key road sections that have not been repaired in 30 to 50 years are Petropavlovsk – Zhezkazgan (703 km), Kandyagash – Shalkar (246 km), Karaganda – Ayagoz – Bugaz (452 km), and notably, "Zhanaozen – Turkmenistan border" (156 km), which will undergo a complete overhaul.
The reconstruction of this route is particularly important for Kazakhstan-Turkmenistan cooperation, as improved transport links will create new opportunities for trade and logistics between the two countries.
