 Leading European broadcaster interested in media cooperation with Turkmenistan

National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Khalk Maslakhaty Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov met on Thursday, February 27, with Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Euronews TV company Pedro Vargas David, who arrived in Ashgabat for the first time.

Noting the influence on the public of the information sphere, which is rapidly developing on the basis of advanced technologies and innovations, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov confirmed our country's readiness to expand, together with Euronews, activities to cover Turkmenistan's initiatives calling for peace, good neighborliness and trust. In this regard, the positive practice of cooperation with the Euronews TV company was emphasized.

Thus, the Euronews TV channel covered the first UN Global Conference on Sustainable Transport, which was held in Ashgabat in 2016, the 5th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games and the 28th session of the Energy Charter Conference in the Turkmen capital in 2017, as well as the Amul-Khazar International Rally, which took place in 2018, and the first Caspian Economic Forum in the Avaza National Tourist Zone in 2019.

This year marks the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan's neutrality, which calls on states and international organizations to closely cooperate in maintaining peace, friendship, mutual respect and trust. The head of the Khalk Maslakhaty expressed confidence that these ideas can be conveyed to the general public with the support of such a popular and large media outlet as Euronews.

Pedro Vargas David, in turn, emphasized the television company's great interest in expanding cooperation with Turkmenistan, noting that the peaceful foreign policy pursued by an independent neutral state, its achievements in various fields, rich cultural heritage, and beautiful nature attract the attention of the world community.

In 2024, a Cooperation Agreement was reached between the Turkmenaragatnashyk Agency of the Transport and Communications Agency under the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan and the Euronews television company: during the year, the TV channel broadcast videos about our country. In this regard, the intention to continue this practice was emphasized, taking into account the existing great prospects for expanding the partnership.

At the 78th session of the UN General Assembly, Turkmenistan submitted the Resolution "2025 - International Year of Peace and Trust", co-authored by 86 states. This is a very significant step, since against the backdrop of today's events, it is obvious that dialogue based on mutual respect promotes peace and stability, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said.

Turkmenistan plans to organize various political, economic, cultural and humanitarian events at the national and international levels. And the key one among them is the International Forum with the participation of world leaders, which is scheduled to be held in Ashgabat on December 12.

The Concept of Activities and Priorities of Turkmenistan within the International Year of Peace and Trust emphasizes the information and communication component, the head of the Khalk Maslakhaty noted and proposed to organize thematic events and dialogue platforms together with Euronews, using the Internet resources of the TV channel.

Special attention is paid to improving the qualifications of young Turkmen journalists and students receiving specialized education. The National Leader of the Turkmen people expressed his readiness to consider proposals for cooperation with the Euronews TV company in this area.

The Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Euronews TV company said that he would take the opportunity to take part in the international forum dedicated to the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan's neutrality. Pedro Vargas David emphasized that Euronews has a special academy, which creates opportunities for exchanging experience in the media sphere and developing technical cooperation.

Sharing his impressions of his visit to Turkmenistan, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Euronews said that he was delighted by the Akhal-Teke horses and the visit to the National Museum of the Turkmen Carpet, noting that it is a great honor for the company he heads to widely promote this priceless heritage of the Turkmen people.
