The guest conveyed greetings from UN Secretary-General António Guterres to the President of Turkmenistan, as well as National Leader of the Turkmen People, Chairman of the Khalk Maslakhaty Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, and emphasized the role of Turkmenistan's policy of positive neutrality in the interests of global peace and sustainable development.
President Serdar Berdimuhamedov wished her success in the upcoming meetings during the visit and a briefing on the Third UN Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries, which will be held in August. The head of state congratulated the guest on the 80th anniversary of the founding of the UN and expressed confidence that the Organization will continue to make a significant contribution to maintaining global peace, security and sustainable development, the Neutral Turkmenistan newspaper reports.
As noted, building up strategic partnership with the UN is one of the priorities of Turkmenistan's foreign policy. This year, marked by the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan's neutrality, was declared the International Year of Peace and Trust by the UN General Assembly at the suggestion of our country. This decision clearly demonstrates the broad recognition by the world community of the initiatives of the Turkmen side in the interests of global peace and sustainable development.
During the meeting, an exchange of views took place on organizational measures in the context of preparations for the high-level UN Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries.
Serdar Berdimuhamedov emphasized the special attention paid in Turkmenistan to the development of the transport and communications sector: the favorable geographical location of our country serves as a reliable platform for expanding the transport and logistics network, and this fact, in turn, determines the measures taken to create important multimodal transport corridors "North-South" and "East-West" for the region.
It was mentioned that in 2022, an international conference was held in the Avaza National Tourist Zone with the participation of transport ministers of landlocked developing countries, as well as international and regional structures. Within its framework, topical issues on the creation of sustainable transport and transit corridors were discussed.
President Serdar Berdimuhamedov confirmed Turkmenistan's readiness to further expand mutually beneficial cooperation with the United Nations and its specialized structures.
