Turkmenistan Strengthens Diplomatic Ties with Switzerland and Sweden
13.12.2024 | 18:00 |On December 12, Ashgabat hosted significant diplomatic meetings dedicated to the development of bilateral cooperation between Turkmenistan and Switzerland and Sweden. These events became an important part of the celebration of Neutrality Day, and their results underscore the desire to strengthen international cooperation.
Foreign Minister of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov held talks with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Swiss Confederation to Turkmenistan, with residence in Baku, Thomas Stähli. The parties discussed prospects for cooperation in the political, diplomatic, trade, economic, cultural and humanitarian spheres. The meeting concluded with the signing of two key agreements: on the mutual abolition of visa requirements for holders of diplomatic and service passports and on the readmission of persons residing without permission.
On the same day, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Myahri Byashimova met with Ambassador of the Kingdom of Sweden, with residence in Stockholm, Thomas Danestad. During the talks, emphasis was placed on the sustainable development of bilateral relations, as well as on the effectiveness of the political consultations held in Stockholm in September. Particular attention was paid to the development of cultural and humanitarian cooperation and the implementation of joint initiatives in this area.
These meetings underscore Turkmenistan's commitment to strengthening international ties and developing multilateral cooperation in the spirit of neutrality.
The signed agreements and agreements reached lay the foundation for further expansion of Turkmenistan's cooperation with partners in Europe. The ambassadors also took part in festive events on the occasion of the International Day of Neutrality.
