The state-owned telecommunications company of the Republic of Türkiye, Türk Telekom, has announced the initiation of a project dedicated to the development of Turkish smartphones, which will form part of a broader initiative entitled "National and Domestic Communication Devices".
This project will be executed in collaboration with relevant stakeholders from both the public and private sectors. Its objective extends beyond the creation of smartphones in the Republic of Türkiye to encompass other smart devices, operating systems, telecommunications equipment, as well as hardware and software.
The Chief Executive Officer of Türk Telekom, Ümit Önal, emphasized the significance of this endeavor in transforming the Republic of Türkiye from a consumer of technology into a global producer and exporter. He noted that Türk Telekom's subsidiaries, such as Argela and Netsia, already possess over 70 international patents.
Mr. Önal also reported the signing of substantial agreements with leading global technology companies for the commercialization of the developed technologies. A crucial aspect of the project is its adherence to all 5G requirements, underscoring Türk Telekom's strategic focus on strengthening position of the Republic of Türkiye within the global technology sector.
