President of Turkmenistan: Regional Agenda Priority - Economic Development through Partnership

Amid the complexities of the global situation, the main and unconditional priority for the Central Asian states should remain the preservation of peace, harmony and stability, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov said, speaking at the VI Consultative Meeting of the Heads of State of Central Asia in Astana.

Having noted the similarity of positions in making the region prosperous, highly developed and deeply integrated into modern global relations, while maintaining its identity, independence and the right to choose an internal and external development model, the head of Turkmenistan expressed confidence that only under such conditions will our states and peoples be able to ensure a decent and confident future for themselves, TDH reports.

"We cannot allow attempts to involve our region in some spheres of influence, especially in conflicts, to be carried out, to give grounds to doubt the independence and subjectivity of Central Asia as a geopolitical, economic, cultural and civilizational space with a thousand-year history. Our peoples have their own agenda: peace, good neighborliness, brotherhood and cooperation," Serdar Berdimuhamedov emphasized.

The head of state emphasized that as the initiator of this format of high-level meetings, Turkmenistan proceeds from the fact that they should be of a consultative nature, be a platform for political communication in a free exchange mode.

"We understand each other perfectly, each of our meetings ends with a clear final document, on the basis of which we work further. We believe that from both a political and practical point of view, there is no need to burden the created format with the establishment of additional add-ons," President Serdar Berdimuhamedov said.

Among the priorities of the regional agenda, the head of Turkmenistan noted economic development through close and mutually beneficial partnership. In this context, it was noted the key importance of cooperation in the transport and communications sector. Noting the active work to create new transport and transit corridors in Eurasia, the President of Turkmenistan stated that timely and effective integration of our region into these processes, using geographical, logistical and other advantages, should be a common task of the Central Asian states in the very near future. Strengthening the transport interconnectivity between Asia and Europe involves the creation of modern logistics in the territories of our countries, harmonization of legislation, mutual provision of customs, tariff and other preferences.

Speaking about the growing role of the neighboring countries in the region in international energy cooperation, Serdar Berdimuhamedov noted that the strategic goal is to meet the growing energy needs of the Central Asian states, taking into account the availability and future emergence of new industrial and agricultural capacities, infrastructure facilities, as well as the launch of joint production projects.

Among the areas of interaction, trade expansion, industrial cooperation, and partnership in the field of small and medium entrepreneurship were also identified.

President Serdar Berdimuhamedov invited the leaders of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan to the International Forum dedicated to the 300th anniversary of the birth of Magtymguly Fragi "The Interconnection of Times and Civilizations - the Basis of the Modern World and Development", which will be held in October of this year.

"By inviting the leaders of many states to this Forum, we consider it not just as a tribute to Magtymguly, but also as a significant and timely opportunity for a broad and respectful international dialogue, a platform for presenting constructive, creative approaches and points of view on the fate of the world, the state of current global political, socio-cultural, geo-economic and humanitarian ties, their trends and prospects," the head of Turkmenistan emphasized.

Having noted the special demand for such a dialogue today, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov noted the key importance that Turkmenistan attaches to ensuring that the positions of the fraternal Central Asian states are voiced at the forum in a weighty and authoritative manner, are heard and understood.
