Turkmenistan and Daewoo Discuss Partnership and "Green" Methanol Project

On October 14, National Leader of the Turkmen People and Chairman of the Khalk Maslakhaty, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, met with Jeong Won-ju, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Korean company Daewoo Engineering & Construction Co., Ltd.

The meeting confirmed the long-term, strategic nature of Turkmen-Korean relations, which are consistently being elevated to a qualitatively new level. It was noted that Korean companies, including Daewoo, have been effectively operating in key sectors—the oil and gas industry and the chemical industry—since the early years of Turkmenistan's independence.

Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov emphasized that Turkmenistan attaches particular importance to environmentally oriented "green" projects as part of its industrial reforms.

In this context, the National Leader announced a new initiative: the possibility of producing "green" methanol from cotton stalks (guza-paya) is currently being explored. It was noted that Turkmen cotton is environmentally friendly and highly suitable for industrial use.

The Chairman of the Board of Daewoo confirmed his company's commitment to contributing to the innovative development of Turkmenistan's chemical industry, emphasizing the favorable business climate in the country.

During the discussion, the National Leader emphasized that the primary requirements for the construction of new facilities in the country are compliance with environmental standards, the implementation of advanced scientific advances, and the high-quality and timely completion of projects.

The businessman assured that Daewoo will continue to responsibly fulfill all contractual obligations, maintaining its strategic partnership with the State Concern Turkmenhimiya.

As reported by Watan habarlary, during his visit to Ashgabat, the head of Daewoo also held talks with the Government of Turkmenistan, in particular with Deputy Prime Ministers Batyr Amanov and Mammetkhan Chakyev.
