OpenAI Expands ChatGPT: Users Will Soon Be Able to Communicate With Each Other
16.10.2025 | 09:55 |OpenAI is preparing to expand the capabilities of ChatGPT, transforming it from a chatbot into a full-fledged communication platform. A new feature called “Calpico” has been discovered in the Android version of the app, which will allow users to exchange private messages and create group chats.
According to the developers, Calpico will enable users to communicate one-on-one or in groups, invite artificial intelligence into conversations as a virtual assistant, as well as create profiles, set usernames, receive notifications, and manage contacts.
Similar features are already being tested in OpenAI’s iOS app, indicating the company’s plans to integrate social capabilities across all platforms.
However, experts note that there are still questions regarding the security of the new feature. OpenAI previously stated that user data could be used to train models. If private chats are not protected with end-to-end encryption, the level of privacy may be lower than in apps like WhatsApp or Signal.
OpenAI is actively developing the ChatGPT ecosystem. The company has previously launched an app showcase (Apps SDK), autonomous agents, and the video platform Sora 2. The new Calpico feature could become the next step toward turning ChatGPT into a universal platform for communication and idea sharing.
