 Minister of Health of Turkmenistan met with WHO Director-General

Minister of Health and Medical Industry of Turkmenistan Murat Mammedov took part in the 78th session of the World Health Assembly in Geneva, reaffirming the country's active position in strengthening international cooperation in the field of health.

At the plenary session of the Assembly, an important Declaration on Pandemic Preparedness and Response was adopted, emphasizing the need for global solidarity. In his speech, Minister Mammedov noted Turkmenistan's contribution to achieving sustainable development in health care, highlighting key areas: development of primary health care, advanced training of health workers, digitalization and emergency preparedness.

On May 19, Murat Mammedov met with WHO Director-General Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus. The parties discussed the positive dynamics of bilateral cooperation and Turkmenistan's initiatives in the field of public health, including the prevention of non-communicable diseases and the development of medical education. Minister Mammedov conveyed an official invitation from National Leader of the Turkmen people Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov to the WHO Director-General to take part in events dedicated to the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan's neutrality, which will be celebrated on December 12, 2025.

Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus congratulated Turkmenistan on the adoption of the UN resolution declaring 2025 the Year of Peace and Trust, expressing readiness to further strengthen the partnership.

In addition, on May 20, Murat Mammedov met with the WHO Regional Director for Europe Dr. Hans Kluge, where they discussed bilateral cooperation and joint events for the 30th anniversary of neutrality and Day of Health Workers of Turkmenistan. The parties confirmed their desire to expand cooperation to improve the effectiveness of national health systems in the region.
