KazMunayGas and Total Energies Discuss Key Areas of Cooperation
11.03.2025 | 23:40 |As part of a working visit to the United States, Chairman of the Management Board of JSC NC KazMunayGas (KMG) Askhat Khasenov met with Chairman of the Board of Directors and President of the French oil and gas company TotalEnergies SE Patrick Pouyanné. At the meeting, the parties discussed the prospects for bilateral cooperation in the oil and gas industry, renewable energy projects (RES) and ways to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
According to El.kz, the key topics discussed during the meeting concerned: the development of the North Caspian project and further development of the Kashagan field; increasing the share of local content in oil and gas projects in Kazakhstan; joint work on decarbonization and reduction of greenhouse gas emissions; implementation of the Mirny wind farm project with a capacity of 1 GW in the Zhambyl region; interaction on carbon capture, storage and utilization (CCUS) technologies.
During the conversation, Askhat Khasenov outlined KMG's strategic priorities related to the development of local production and support for the national economy. In the area of renewable energy, special attention was paid to the Mirny wind power plant project, which will be a significant step in achieving carbon neutrality in Kazakhstan under the Paris Agreement. The Kazakh side also expressed interest in studying Total Energies' experience in implementing carbon capture and storage projects, such as Northern Lights in Norway.
