Turkmenistan invited Lithuania to participate in an international forum and to intensify trade relations
08.03.2025 | 23:42 |During his working visit to Vilnius, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Turkmenistan to the Republic of Belarus Nazarguly Shagulyev met with Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Lithuania Julius Pranevičius.
Ambassador Shagulyev presented the Lithuanian diplomat with an official invitation addressed to President of Lithuania Gitanas Nausėda on behalf of National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Khalk Maslakhaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov. The invitation concerns the participation of the Lithuanian side in the upcoming International Forum in Turkmenistan, dedicated to the proclamation of 2025 as the International Year of Peace and Trust, as well as the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan's permanent neutrality.
During the meeting, the parties highly appreciated the activities of the Turkmen-Lithuanian intergovernmental working group, confirming its key role in coordinating cooperation and developing bilateral relations. Ambassador Shagulyev emphasized the existing potential for expanding trade and economic ties and called for increased interaction between the business communities of the two countries.
Continuing his working visit to the Republic of Lithuania, Nazarguly Shagulyev visited the Grudoteka enterprise, which specializes in trade and logistics through seaports to the CIS countries, Europe and Asia, and held talks with its management. The meeting discussed key aspects of port cooperation, with an emphasis on increasing the efficiency of cargo transportation and developing maritime logistics infrastructure as important factors in strengthening trade relations between Turkmenistan and Lithuania.
In addition, Ambassador Shagulyev met with Director General of the Klaipeda State Seaport, Algis Latakas. Latakas gave the Turkmen diplomat a detailed overview of the port's activities, noting that the Klaipeda port is one of the leading ice-free ports on the eastern coast of the Baltic Sea, the largest transport hub in Lithuania, providing a connection between sea and land routes between the East and the West. He said that the port has 33 modern terminals, which allows for the efficient handling of cargo flows of various purposes. The impressive technical characteristics of the port were announced: a total area of 415 hectares, a water area of 623 hectares, a water area depth of up to 14 meters, which makes it possible to receive large-tonnage vessels.
At the end of the meeting, Ambassador Shagulyev expressed confidence in the presence of significant prospects for deepening economic partnership and further development of mutually beneficial cooperation between Turkmenistan and the Republic of Lithuania in the transport sector.
