 Serdar Berdimuhamedov held talks with the Prime Minister of Georgia

On Friday, March 7, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov held talks with the Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Kobakhidze, who arrived in Ashgabat on an official visit.

As was emphasized, the Turkmen-Georgian relations, which are traditionally friendly and constructive, are based on the principles of equality, mutual respect and trust. An important aspect of the interstate dialogue is trade and economic cooperation. Positive results have been achieved in the fields of energy, industry and healthcare.

One of the main areas of bilateral partnership is the field of transport and logistics. Turkmenistan is interested in developing such projects as the Black Sea - Caspian Sea transport route, the Lazurite Corridor, and the Green Ports.

President Serdar Berdimuhamedov spoke in favor of strengthening bilateral cultural and humanitarian contacts, where there are great prospects for interaction and exchange of experience in the field of culture and art, science and education, holding joint events, exhibitions and conferences.

The head of state also stressed that Turkmenistan highly appreciates Georgia's support in implementing its peacekeeping initiatives. One of them was the proposal to declare 2025 the International Year of Peace and Trust, which was enshrined in the UN General Assembly Resolution.

Noting that a representative Forum for Peace and Trust will be held in Ashgabat on December 12 this year, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov invited Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze to the upcoming high-level meeting.

Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze confirmed Georgia's interest in further strengthening and developing the traditionally friendly dialogue and mutually beneficial partnership with our country. Having conveyed warm greetings from President Mikheil Kavelashvili to the head of Turkmenistan, the head of Government stressed that Georgia highly appreciates the constructive policy of neutral Turkmenistan and welcomes its active efforts aimed at ensuring peace in the region.

Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze spoke in favor of developing productive cooperation in the implementation of transport and logistics projects and in the energy sector. It was emphasized that the bilateral documents prepared for signing at today's meeting of the delegations of the two countries will give new impetus to the Turkmen-Georgian partnership.

During the detailed discussion of a wide range of issues of interstate cooperation that took place in continuation of the negotiations, its priority areas at the present stage and in the context of plans for the future were specified.


During the official visit of the Prime Minister of Georgia to Turkmenistan, negotiations were held between the delegations of the two countries, the agenda of which included key issues of cooperation in various spheres. The subject of the interested discussion was the prospects for increasing trade and economic ties, where there are favorable opportunities for their diversification, increasing the volume of trade turnover, expanding the range of goods, stimulating contacts through business structures, and entering into new joint projects.

The transport and communications and energy sectors were also identified as priority areas of partnership. Georgia expressed interest in cooperation in the gas sector, TDH reports.
