15.11.2024 | 15:47 |Kazakhstan and China have begun construction of a container hub on the Caspian Sea. This was reported by the “Kazinform” news agency with reference to the press service of the Ministry of Transport of Kazakhstan.
The project is being implemented by the Lianyungang Port State Corporation jointly with the Aktau Sea Trade Port.
The hub will increase container transportation in the Trans-Caspian direction through Azerbaijan, Georgia, Turkey and reorient part of the transit cargo coming from China to Europe.
The construction of the hub began in the Mangistau region. Currently, land management work is underway using over 20 units of special equipment.
Currently, the indicator for container transportation through sea ports has increased by 84% and amounted to 58 thousand TEU (twenty-foot equivalent · an exact unit of measurement used to determine the carrying capacity of container ships and terminals).
The work is expected to be completed in mid-2025.
