Turkmenistan supports the Global Methane Initiative

Turkmenistan joins international efforts on the climate agenda and supports the UN initiative - the Global Commitment on Methane, taking measures at the national level to reduce methane emissions into the air. This was stated by President Serdar Berdimuhamedov at a meeting of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan on Sunday, September 24.

The Head of State noted that environmental protection programs and environmental projects are being successfully implemented in the country, green belts are being created around cities and villages, forest belts are being expanded, work is underway to preserve ecosystems and biodiversity, and expand nature reserves.

Speaking at the national forum, Serdar Berdimuhamedov stressed the need to introduce scientifically sound norms and rules for the use of polymer and plastic materials in the country, recycling their waste in order to prevent harmful effects on the environment.

Special programs should be adopted for the collection and processing of such waste, the President said, adding that cooperation in this area will continue on the basis of relevant conventions of international and regional organizations, primarily the UN.
