Electricity from Turkmen gas helped save the Toktogul reservoir from shortage

Uzbekistan supplied Kyrgyzstan with electricity generated with the help of Turkmen gas to prevent the Toktogul reservoir from running out – a critical lowering of the water level, follows from a joint statement by the Ministry of Energy of the two republics.

This operation took place within the framework of the Protocol, which provides for the supply of excess electricity to Uzbekistan at the right time for Kyrgyzstan, and in return receives it in the summer from Kyrgyz hydroelectric power plants.

It is noted that electricity consumption by the Uzbek side increases in the period from 17:00 to 21:00. Kyrgyzstan fully covers this need within 4 hours, and in return receives Uzbek electricity at night.

Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan are both major importers of Turkmen electricity.
