A new page in Relations between Turkmenistan and the Principality of Monaco

The visit of the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, to the Principality of Monaco and his talks with Prince Albert II demonstrate the parties' intention to elevate bilateral relations to a qualitatively new level.

While the outcome of the meeting between the two countries' leaders within the framework of the World Water Forum in the Republic of Korea led to the decision to establish diplomatic relations between Turkmenistan and the Principality of Monaco in August 2015, today, the ten years of accumulated experience of cooperation in various fields opens up much broader prospects for its expansion.

During the negotiations held at the Prince's Palace of Monaco, key areas were identified in which the existing potential for bilateral cooperation could be realized. These include business and finance, environmental protection and the climate agenda, cooperation in the space sector, and the activation and expansion in new directions of bilateral dialogue in the fields of culture, sports, and tourism.

In the humanitarian sphere, the prospect of establishing a partnership between the Princess Grace Foundation and the Charitable Foundation for Assisting Children in Need of Guardianship named after Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov was noted.

Princess Grace of Monaco, a former American film star who became the wife of Prince Rainier III and the mother of the current ruling Prince Albert II, after her marriage devoted herself entirely to raising her three children and caring for her subjects. She was actively involved in charity work, introduced the tradition of annual Christmas trees for all children of the principality, including orphans, and tea parties in hospitals, patronized several charitable foundations, founded the Garden Club, headed the Monaco branch of the Red Cross, and greatly assisted the Oceanographic Museum, making it a major European attraction. Under her rule, the small principality experienced an incredible rise and flourishing, turning into a center of cultural life with numerous holidays and festivals.

Noting the great opportunities for bilateral partnership, Prince Albert II reaffirmed Monaco's commitment to its expansion in new directions. During the negotiations, the parties highly appreciated the peacekeeping and constructive initiatives of Turkmenistan and the Principality of Monaco on international policy and expressed their readiness to combine efforts in implementing the global agenda and expanding constructive partnership, including within authoritative structures.
