 Head of Canadian diplomatic mission accredited in Turkmenistan

The Chairperson of the National Parliament – the Mejlis – Dunyagozel Gulmanova, received on Tuesday the letters of credence from Christopher Duggan, appointed as the Ambassador of Canada to Turkmenistan (with residence in Astana).

During the meeting, the Head of the Mejlis, on behalf of President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, congratulated the head of the diplomatic mission on his new appointment and wished him success in developing cooperation and friendly relations between Turkmenistan and Canada.

Christopher Duggan, in turn, conveyed greetings and friendly wishes to the head of the Turkmen state and to the entire people of the friendly country. The diplomat presented the letter of credence from the Governor General of Canada, Mary May Simon, addressed to President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, which stated that Christopher Duggan's abilities and diligence "make it possible to be confident that he will perform his duties in such a way as to earn Your approval and respect".

During the meeting, Dunyagozel Akmuhammedovna acquainted the Canadian Ambassador with the priority areas of foreign and domestic policy pursued by the leadership of Turkmenistan, as well as with the work being carried out by the national parliament to modernize the country's legislation.

The Canadian Ambassador emphasized the interest of his country in strengthening and developing cooperation with Turkmenistan. The parties further discussed the prospects for political-diplomatic, economic, and cultural ties, as well as inter-parliamentary cooperation.

The Head of the Canadian diplomatic mission in Turkmenistan assured that he would make every effort, knowledge, and experience to strengthen friendship and cooperation between the two countries.

On the same day, Ambassador Christopher Duggan also met with the Deputy Head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, Ahmed Gurbanov, to whom the Canadian diplomat presented copies of his credentials.
