Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to Turkmenistan: A look at China through keywords (19th issue)

Eight years ago, the Chinese President and other world leaders adopted the Paris Agreement with great political determination and wisdom, marking a new beginning in global cooperation to combat climate change. On December 1, 2023, the special representative of Chinese President Xi Jinping, a member of the Standing Committee of the Politburo of the CPC Central Committee, and Vice Premier of the State Council of the People's Republic of China Ding Xuexiang took part in the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change in Dubai and made a speech. As Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People's Republic of China to Turkmenistan, I am ready, based on the speech of Vice-Premier of the State Council of the People's Republic of China Ding Xuexiang, to acquaint the friends of Turkmenistan with the important contribution and position of China in the field of global climate management.

Keyword 1: important contribution

China has fulfilled its obligations and made important contributions to global climate policy. We actively promote green development. Carbon dioxide emission intensity in 2022 has decreased by more than 51% compared to 2005. China's production and sales of new energy vehicles rank first in the world, with the existing number of new energy vehicles exceeding 18 million, accounting for more than half of the world's total. We are effectively promoting the energy revolution. The share of installed non-fossil energy capacity increased to 50.9%. China has completely stopped building new overseas coal power plants and has accounted for 50% of the world's wind power equipment and 80% of its photovoltaic equipment. We actively promote international cooperation on climate change. China has allocated more than 1.2 billion yuan to a special fund for South-South cooperation on climate change to support developing countries in improving their ability to cope with climate change.

Keyword 2: versatility

We need to practice versatility. We must adhere to the goals and principles set out in the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change and the Paris Agreement, strengthen solidarity and cooperation, and achieve mutual benefit and win-win results.

Keyword 3: green transformation

We need to accelerate the green transformation. We need to actively increase the share of renewable energy sources, promote clean, low-carbon and efficient use of traditional energy, and accelerate the development of green and low-carbon production methods and lifestyles.

Key Word 4: Commitment and Action

We need to honor commitments and take action. Existing obligations must be fully fulfilled. In particular, developed countries must effectively increase financial, technological, and capacity-building support to developing countries to turn the vision into reality.
