Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has resigned
07.01.2025 | 10:35 |Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has announced his resignation as leader of the Liberal Party. However, he will continue to serve as prime minister until the party elects a new leader.
Trudeau said his resignation would give Canadians a choice in the upcoming election, which is scheduled to take place no later than October 2025. He also noted that his government has made significant progress on the economy, although it has faced criticism over rising inflation.
Trudeau announced his resignation ahead of the Liberal Party's national convention, which begins Wednesday.
Expressing satisfaction with his premiership, Trudeau said Canada was a better version of the country he took over in 2015.
Justin Trudeau led the Liberal Party since 2013 and became prime minister in 2015, after which his government implemented a number of progressive reforms, including the legalization of marijuana and improved social benefits.
