Diplomatic Rhythm of Avaza: Turkmenistan's Foreign Ministry Expands Ties and Signs New Agreements

The Third UN Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries has become not only a platform for global discussions, but also a platform for intensive diplomatic work at the bilateral level. The head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan held a series of productive meetings and signed important agreements that expand the geography of partnership and strengthen existing ties.

New partners and concrete results

The active work resulted in the signing of a number of bilateral documents that serve as a basis for further cooperation.

Particular attention is drawn to agreements with African countries, which indicates the expansion of Turkmenistan's diplomatic presence on the continent. A Protocol on Political Consultations with Burkina Faso and a similar document with the Republic of Malawi were signed. As Vice President of Malawi Michael Usi noted, this agreement opens up opportunities to explore issues of financing development projects in his country, especially in areas where Turkmenistan has experience - energy and infrastructure.

A landmark event was the formal establishment of diplomatic relations with the Kingdom of Eswatini. Eswatini Foreign Minister Folile Shakantu stated that cooperation in areas where Turkmenistan has experience (desert agriculture, natural gas) is essential for her country to combat the effects of climate change and drought.

In addition, a number of other important documents were signed:

• Agreement on Economic Cooperation with the Government of the Slovak Republic.

• Document on the technical assistance project for the development of regional connectivity and digital transformation of customs.

• Annual work plan for 2025 on the prevention of violent extremism in Central Asia.

Strengthening existing partnerships

On the sidelines of the conference, head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov held meetings with foreign colleagues, focusing on enhancing cooperation and implementing the agreements already reached.

During the talks with State Minister for International Cooperation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Qatar Maryam bint Ali bin Nasser Al-Missned, the issues of implementing previously reached agreements at a high level were discussed.

At the meeting with Minister of Roads and Urban Development of Iran Farzaneh Sadegh Malwajerd, co-chairman of the Intergovernmental Turkmen-Iranian Commission, key issues on the bilateral agenda in the context of transport cooperation and infrastructure projects were discussed.

The meeting with Georgian Foreign Minister Maka Bochorishvili confirmed the importance of regular consultations and bilateral visits. The parties paid special attention to intensifying trade and economic ties, including in the areas of transport, logistics and energy.

All these meetings and agreements have become clear evidence that Turkmenistan is not just an organizer of global forums, but also actively uses them to strengthen its role in international diplomacy, concluding specific and mutually beneficial agreements.
