China proposes the establishment of a SCO cooperation center for the application of AI
30.05.2025 | 18:40 |The idea of establishing a cooperation center in the field of artificial intelligence (AI) application is contained in a program published at the "China-SCO" AI cooperation forum, held on Thursday, May 29th, in Tianjin, northern China. According to Xinhua News Agency, the program includes the joint creation of high-quality datasets and a text corpus to facilitate the safe and orderly cross-border flow of data, the provision of public services such as data and model sharing, the establishment of a mechanism for mutual recognition of standards, as well as the joint formation of a green channel for connecting supply and demand in the AI industry, etc.
China expresses its willingness to cooperate with SCO member states, continuing to promote the "Shanghai Spirit," deepen comprehensive cooperation in the field of AI, and contribute to the joint promotion of AI development in a healthy, safe, and fair direction. As noted at the forum, the SCO is a comprehensive regional cooperation organization with the largest geographical coverage and population in the world, possessing rich information resources and diverse application scenarios. Accelerating breakthroughs in AI technologies and strengthening cooperation in their application will give impetus to the socio-economic cooperation of SCO member states.
According to data announced by the Chinese side, as of April this year, the volume of core industries in the field of AI in China reached nearly 600 billion yuan. The number of AI patent applications exceeded 1.5 million, accounting for almost 40 percent of the global total. In addition, more than 400 "little giants" in the field of AI have been cultivated in China. All of this makes the pooling of efforts between China and the SCO in the application of artificial intelligence for the common good promising. The theme "artificial intelligence in China for the benefit of the SCO" defined the focus of the forum, organized by the National Development and Reform Commission of the PRC together with the People's Government of Tianjin.
