 Ashgabat hosts EU – CA ministerial meeting: visit of the head of European diplomacy

Ashgabat, March 27 /ORIENT/ – On March 27, the capital of Turkmenistan will become the focal point due to the convening of the 20th Ministerial Meeting of the European Union and Central Asian countries. In this context, Ashgabat welcomes the High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Vice-President of the European Commission, Kaja Kallas.

The ministerial meeting will be attended by the heads of the foreign ministries of Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, and Kazakhstan. Key topics of discussion will include preparations for the upcoming EU – Central Asia Summit, scheduled for April 3-4 in Samarkand, as well as a wide range of issues encompassing the regional implications of the current geopolitical situation, the development of transport and digital connectivity, cooperation in the fields of energy, water resources, trade, education, and science.

Of particular significance is the planned program of bilateral meetings of the EU High Representative, Kaja Kallas, in Ashgabat. Prior to the commencement of the ministerial meeting, she will hold talks with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, Rashid Meredov, and the President of Turkmenistan, Serdar Berdimuhamedov.

Following the conclusion of the ministerial meeting, a press conference will be held with the participation of the EU High Representative. A joint communiqué is also expected to be published following the meeting.

The visit of Kaja Kallas to the region also includes visits to Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan for high-level bilateral meetings. From Ashgabat, the EU High Representative will travel to Tashkent, where she will meet with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan, Bakhtiyor Saidov, and the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev. Subsequently, Kaja Kallas will proceed to Almaty, where on Friday, March 28, she will meet with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan, Murat Nurtleu. Her bilateral meeting with the President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, will also take place.
