South Korea introduces electronic immigration card system for foreigners

South Korea will introduce an electronic immigration card system for foreigners, known as the e-Arrival card, starting February 24, 2025. The move is intended to simplify the entry process, reduce inspection time, and reduce congestion at airports.

Through this system, foreign nationals arriving in the country can complete their immigration card online up to three days prior to arrival. Previously, foreigners were required to manually fill out paper immigration cards upon arrival, often resulting in queues and delays. Now, by completing the electronic card, travelers can simply present confirmation on their mobile devices during immigration control. Exemptions from this system apply to registered residents of Korea and airline crew members. For children under the age of 14, the immigration card must be completed by an accompanying adult.

It is anticipated that the new system will attract more tourists and enhance the overall travel experience within the country.

The Ministry intends to maintain the paper-based system alongside the new electronic system until the end of the year to prevent potential confusion.
