Russia plans to increase gas supplies to Central Asia and China

In the coming years, Russia may increase gas supplies to Central Asian countries to 10-15 billion cubic meters. This is stated by experts interviewed by TASS.

"Work is underway with Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan to increase the capacity of the Central Asia-Center gas pipeline in reverse mode. The potential increase is up to 10-12 billion cubic meters per year," Alexey Grivach, deputy head of the National Energy Security Fund and an expert at the Valdai Club said. An analyst at FG Finam Sergei Kaufman estimated this figure at 12-15 billion cubic meters per year.

Russia will also increase pipeline gas supplies to China. Gazprom has reached the maximum annual supply volumes via the Power of Siberia ahead of schedule and signed additional agreements with its Chinese partners, so Russian gas exports via this route in 2025 may exceed the projected 38 billion cubic meters, according to Maria Belova, research director of the company "Implementa". In addition, in 2027, gas supplies are expected to begin via the Far Eastern route, which will bring the total volume of pumping to China to 48 billion cubic meters. At the same time, Russia is currently considering two new gas pipeline routes to China: "Power of Siberia - 2" through Mongolia for 50 billion cubic meters and a pipeline through the territory of Kazakhstan for 45 billion cubic meters (35 billion for China and 10 billion for gasification of the northeastern regions of Kazakhstan). Experts believe that the "Power of Siberia - 2" project is more developed and preferable: it will allow gasification of large cities in Siberia and bring gas to the capital agglomeration of China with a developed consumption system.
