 Specialists from Turkmenistan and Russia will conduct a study of population immunity to infections

A large-scale study to assess the population's immunity to current infections is starting in Turkmenistan. The project will be implemented with the support of the Pasteur Research Institute of Epidemiology and Microbiology of the Russian Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing. This was reported by the "Neutral Turkmenistan" newspaper.

A group of medical specialists from St. Petersburg arrived in Ashgabat to implement the project, led by Director of the Research Institute, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Professor Areg Totolyan. On the first day of the visit, a bilateral cooperation agreement was signed.

According to the agreement, the research will cover key infectious diseases such as measles, rubella, mumps, diphtheria and viral hepatitis. As part of the work, specialists will collect laboratory materials and conduct free serological testing to obtain data on the current state of the population's immunity.

As the publication notes, such a study is being organized in Turkmenistan for the first time. The results obtained will help predict the epidemiological situation and improve preventive measures, including the vaccination program.

The long-term agreement is designed for five years and includes not only practical research, but also personnel training, implementation of scientific projects and exchange of experience between specialists from the two countries. The project is fully financed by the Russian side.

"This agreement covers both practical and scientific tasks. We will cooperate in training personnel, share experience and jointly develop scientific projects", Director of the Research Institute, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Professor, Doctor of Medical Sciences Areg Totolyan said.

The study will be a significant step in strengthening cooperation between Turkmenistan and Russia in the field of healthcare and prevention of infectious diseases.
