 Qatar university introduces new course on Turkish TV series

From November this year, Northwestern University in Qatar has introduced a unique course dedicated to Turkish television dramas. The new course, titled “The Global Impact of Turkish Television Dramas”, will specialize in studying the cultural significance of Turkish TV series and their phenomenal success in over 170 countries around the world.

Turkish TV series have become an integral part of the global media landscape, gaining immense popularity in the Middle East, the Balkans, as well as in Latin America and Central Asia.

Today, Turkish TV series boast over 700 million viewers worldwide. Among them, series such as “The Magnificent Century”, “Bahar”, “The Kingfisher” and others have gained particular popularity and continue to attract a wide audience.

A new course at Northwestern University in Qatar will focus on the cultural impact of Turkish TV series, focusing on aspects such as the script, characters and social issues addressed in them.

The graduate program also plans to investigate why Turkish TV series have attracted such a wide international audience and how they have become an important tool in Turkey's cultural diplomacy.
