Russia has found a way to improve the quality of communication.

A prototype of a device that allows reflecting radiation that provides 5G and 6G communication, like a sunbeam, in the direction of the subscriber, bypassing blind spots, was developed by specialists from Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University (SPbPU). This was reported by the RIA Novosti news agency.

According to experts, high-frequency communication, which provides high-speed wireless networks, has reduced penetrating ability, so it can stop among a large number of buildings and even in rooms of complex shape.

The issue of signal interruption, as well as increasing the coverage area of wireless communication in urban areas, can be solved by installing a larger number of base stations.

As one of the authors of the development, Associate Professor of the Higher School of Applied Physics and Space Technologies of SPbPU Vitaly Pavlov said, this development currently has no analogues.

The work involved reconfigurable intelligent surfaces (RIS), which are a reflective antenna array in a set of elements with individual control of the phase of the signal reflected by each element. Computer vision methods and neural network technologies are responsible for determining the spatial position of the subscriber and tracking his movements.

Moreover, the development does not require a large amount of electricity.

In the future, the team strives to develop and study an improved computer vision system for use both for controlling the RIS and the base station itself in 5/6 generation communication systems.
