The Russian Cynological Federation (RKF) has compiled a list of the best breeds that are suitable for guarding houses or enterprises. According to the federation, the Caucasian Shepherd Dog, the Moscow Watchdog, the Central Asian Shepherd Dog - Alabai, Tibetan Mastiff and Russian Black Terrier - are the five dog breeds with the best watchdog qualities.

Vladimir Golubev, President of the Russian Cynological Federation (RKF), spoke about which breed to choose and what characteristics a guard dog should have.

“Guard dogs, as a rule, do not have close contact with humans and are very distrustful of strangers. Their guarding behavior is partly due to the breed characteristics, but they necessarily require training to ensure that the owner is able to control their behavior,” said Golubev.

According to him, for this they need to be prepared from puppyhood. For their tasks, they must be neutral to other people and animals outside the protected area, and on their territory their main task is to notify the owner of the approach of ill-wishers, scare them away with barking and a formidable appearance, and in extreme cases - to attack.

Alabai closes the top three in the RKF list. “A fearless dog breed that almost never shows aggression first. Seeing a stranger on its territory, at first it barks and growls, and acts only if there is a provocation. Representatives of this breed have a strong character, and not everyone can cope with it,” said Golubev.

According to him, dogs of this breed need early socialization under the supervision of a professional dog handler. They are recommended to be handled by an experienced owner who can devote time to training and education.

The Turkmen Alabay is a shepherd dog, the breed qualities of which have been polished by nature and people for centuries.

The peculiarity of the character of this breed is dignity, self-confidence. Experienced dog breeders know that it is completely unacceptable to apply punishment when raising an alabai, you must first earn his respect, and only then he will obey unquestioningly.

Today it is one of the most popular breeds in the world. In recent years, interest in the Central Asian Shepherd Dog has grown significantly in Europe. But only in Turkmenistan, thanks to the efforts of breeders and due to the isolation of the Alabai from other dog breeds, its original appearance, not mixed with other breeds, has been preserved.
