Ashgabat Celebrates Day of Amu Darya: Water as a Source of Creativity and Life
31.07.2025 | 23:47 |A unique series of creative master classes has ended in the capital on the eve of Amu Darya River Day. These classes, organized as part of a regional water management project, have become a vivid and life-affirming reminder: water is not only a valuable resource, but also an inexhaustible source of inspiration that unites people of different generations.
The goal of these events, held by the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ) together with the State Water Management Committee of Turkmenistan, is not just to talk about problems, but to gently, through creativity, instill love and respect for nature.
Creative Flow: When Art Speaks About the Important
Representatives of various social groups took part in the project. For example, older people were fascinated by painting eco-friendly bags, which turned into canvases telling the story of the beauty of water and its importance for Central Asia. Each work became not just a drawing, but a real story, which reflected rich life experience.
Teenagers, mastering the methods of artistic painting, created miniature water landscapes and ecosystems on ceramic plates. In their works, water appeared as a symbol of purity and freshness, emphasizing its role in preserving life.
Modeling classes were organized for people with disabilities. By creating themed items, they not only mastered a new craft, but also literally created symbols of careful treatment of water resources with their own hands.
These master classes, sponsored by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) with the support of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), became an excellent example of how art can serve as a powerful tool for raising environmental awareness.
The Future is in Our Hands
In an atmosphere of passion and creativity, the youngest participants, who do not yet think about global problems, have already begun to understand: water is needed not only by fish in the river, but also by all living things. Through every movement of the brush and every piece of clay, they conveyed an understanding of how everything in the world is connected to this priceless source of life.
The series of these events is only a prologue to the main celebration of Amu Darya Day. It reminds us that caring for the environment begins with small things - with each of us, with our love for nature and our creativity.
