At the World Chess Olympiad, the women's team of Turkmenistan leads in category C
17.09.2024 | 23:10 |The 6th round of the 45th World Chess Olympiad, which is taking place in Budapest, Hungary, ended yesterday, after which the women's team of Turkmenistan with 8 team points out of 12 possible is in first place in its category.
In addition to the main overall standings, 183 national women's teams are divided into five categories depending on the average rating of team members. The Turkmen women's team, seeded 73rd in the overall standings, fell into category C. Occupying the 36th line in the overall standings after the 6th round, our chess players have so far demonstrated the best result among all teams in their category. The closest pursuers in this fight are the Malaysian team, which is currently in 45th place and also has 8 points out of 12.
In the last, 6th round, the Turkmenistan team, with an average rating of 1956, beat the Brazilian team (average rating - 2132) with a score of 3:1. Leyla Shokhradova (3rd board) and Enesh Arazmedova, who played on the 4th board, distinguished themselves. Vice-champion and champion of the country Lala Shokhradova and Meryem Agadzhanova, who played on the 1st and 2nd boards, respectively, both played a draw. In the 6th round, Jahan Rejepova, who usually plays on the 4th board, rested.
The 100% result is demonstrated so far by the holder of 5th place in the national championship of this year - 17-year-old Enesh Arazmedova, who won all 4 of her games.
Overall, the Indian team (average rating – 2467) is leading the tournament in the women's section, having won all 6 of its matches. Georgia, traditionally strong in women's chess, is in 2nd place, and Poland is in 3rd place.
In the 7th round, our women's team will have to fight the Cuban team, which is in 39th place and has an average rating of 2215.
The men's team of Turkmenistan (average rating - 2332) demonstrates more modest results - 6 team points out of 12 possible. So far our guys, also seeded under number 73, but included in the stronger category B, get either rather weak opponents, whom they beat without much effort (Bahamas - 4:0; Brunei - 4:0 and Cyprus - 3:1), or very strong ones, whom they fail to overcome (Lithuania - 0.5:3.5; Austria - 1:3 and Switzerland - 0.5:3.5).
Our country is represented by: International Master Saparmurat Atabayev (1st board), Grandmaster Meilis Annaberdiev (2nd board), 18-year-old Amanmukhammet Khommadov (3rd board), current national champion Allayar Shirliev (4th board) and reserve player Vepaly Khalyniyazov.
The Indian team is also in the lead among men, having not lost any points yet. They are followed by the teams of Vietnam, China and Iran, each with 11 points, with one point behind.
The Chess Olympiad will last until September 22. This year, the Turkmenistan national team is represented at the main world chess competitions after a long 6-year break, the Chess Federation of Turkmenistan noted.
