Turkmenistan is at the forefront of implementation of One Health approach in Central Asia

On September 3, as part of a webinar on the implementation of the One Health approach, representatives of the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC), the World Health Organization (WHO), the World Organization for Animal Health (WOAH), the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) discussed ways to strengthen cooperation and exchange experiences to ensure the health of people, animals and the environment.

The event was attended by Arslan Soltanmyradov, Head of the International Department of the State Veterinary Service under the Ministry of Agriculture of Turkmenistan. As the national coordinator for the One Health approach, he noted the importance of Turkmenistan's efforts in preventing zoonotic diseases and ensuring the safety of animal products. Soltanmyradov also pointed out the importance of interstate cooperation and knowledge sharing, which is an important step towards achieving the common goal of ensuring sustainable health at all levels. In his opinion, combining the efforts of the countries of the region will help to more effectively respond to modern challenges such as pandemics and climate change, and will ensure a reliable future for Central Asia.

The webinar aimed to strengthen the capacity of the EEC member states to implement the One Health approach and included an exchange of experience between the participants. The main topics of discussion included issues of increasing antimicrobial resistance in the food industry and agriculture, as well as ways to accelerate the implementation of One Health initiatives at the national and regional levels.

Turkmenistan's participation in such events underlines its commitment to international standards in the field of health and safety, as well as its willingness to cooperate to address common challenges within the framework of the One Health approach.

A National Intersectoral Committee for the Implementation of the One Health Concept has been established in Turkmenistan.

To effectively implement the One Health approach in Turkmenistan, national coordinators have been appointed from the Ministry of Health and Medical Industry, the State Veterinary Service under the Ministry of Agriculture and the Ministry of Environmental Protection.
