Turkmenistan and UNICEF confirmed interest in partnership
19.07.2024 | 20:55 |President Serdar Berdimuhamedov received on Wednesday, July 17, head of the UNICEF office in Turkmenistan, Jalpa Ratna, who presented her credentials on behalf of the Executive Director of the United Nations Children's Fund.
The President of Turkmenistan congratulated Jalpa Ratna on her appointment and noted that active cooperation with authoritative international organizations, primarily with the Community of Nations and its specialized structures, is one of the main directions of our country’s foreign policy.
“In this regard, the consistent and highly effective nature of the established relations between Turkmenistan and UNICEF was especially noted. As you know, our state was unanimously elected as a member of the UNICEF Executive Board for 2024–2026, which is proof of the effectiveness of the country’s long-term interaction with the Children’s Fund,” the information published in today’s edition of the central newspaper “Neutral Turkmenistan” says.
The partnership is currently being implemented within the framework of the UNICEF Country Program for Turkmenistan for 2021–2025. This year, ten documents were signed with the country’s ministries and departments, including a work plan in the areas of child health, nutrition, early development, social welfare and inclusive education.
During the meeting of the head of state with a UNICEF representative, it was noted that the legislative framework in the field of child protection is constantly being improved in Turkmenistan. Thus, the National Action Plan for the implementation of children’s rights for 2023–2028 was approved.
The importance of close cooperation in the procurement of vaccines and equipment for immunizing children was especially emphasized. The great importance of the Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov Charitable Foundation in providing assistance to children in need of care was noted, through which many operations were performed on young patients in medical centers, as well as regional, district and city hospitals are regularly donated ambulances and modern medical equipment.
Serdar Berdimuhamedov confirmed Turkmenistan’s interest in further continuing a comprehensive partnership with the UN Children’s Fund, wishing head of the UNICEF Ashgabat office, Jalpa Ratna, success in her work.
