An organizing committee for hosting the CIS Games has been created in Azerbaijan
15.07.2024 | 10:27 |An organizing committee has been created in Azerbaijan to host the Games of the Commonwealth of Independent States, which will be held in Ganja in 2025. The corresponding order was signed by President of the Republic Ilham Aliyev.
The document was published on the website of the head of state. It emphasizes that hosting such a significant sporting event in Azerbaijan as the CIS Games will have a positive impact on further strengthening its growing authority as a sports country.
The organizing committee was headed by Minister of Youth and Sports of Azerbaijan Farid Gaibov. It included deputy heads of key ministries and departments, representatives of city and district administrations in the northwestern and western regions of the country.
Ilham Aliyev instructed the Ministry of Youth and Sports of Azerbaijan to prepare and submit to the organizing committee a plan of special events for holding the Games.
The decision to hold the third CIS Games in Azerbaijan in 2025 was made in December 2021 by the Council for Physical Culture and Sports of the CIS participating countries.
The first competition was held in Kazan (Republic of Tatarstan) in September 2021, the second in August 2023 in Belarus.
The initiative to hold the Games of the CIS countries with the aim of strengthening friendly ties between peoples was put forward in 2018 by Russia. The competition is designed to contribute to the practical implementation of the Agreement on Cooperation in the Field of Physical Culture and Sports of the Commonwealth member countries.
